It’s about time I put this up here as the sun has finally shown itself over the past week.
In terms of the song choices, I think Plumtree’s “Go!” is the perfect start to anything and should be used on every soundtrack (and not just for Scott Pilgrim). Charlotte Hatherley’s “Summer” is actually kind of sad, but it’s hopeful and that’s what the beginning of summer has always felt like. The middle is the most fun part of course, and by the end it’s just nostalgia and memories (Cub’s “NYC”). I feel like I’m selling one of those really bad compilation ads on TV.
This is something I made to contribute to my friend Jaz’s zine, which should be finished and released shortly. As soon as I have any copies, I will be sure to post about it here in case anyone would like one!
Some day soon we will revive this blog. In the mean time, here is a mix one of our friends made! You should check it out, and check out her blog, which is all about highlighting awesome female/female-fronted bands.

![MFF#26 [REDACTED]
So, a while ago, in a night club, a friend of mine asked me what I’d play if I was a DJ. And then my friend Chloe asked for me to make her another mix (I haven’t uploaded the first one I made her, I should tidy it up and do that). So, in honour of the fact that we DJed together once, I decided to combine the two ideas. It starts off kind of hip-hop tempo and then it kicks off around the middle.
So here it is: evidence that if I’d actually done anything other than stay out of Chloe’s way, that time we DJed would have been even worse. Also, I don’t have the software to fade these songs into each other like a real DJ, so use your imagination a bit.Tracklist:

![MFF#22: Good Tunes For People Who Love Dave James
I should explain - in my second year at uni, me and my friends Dave, Matt and Rob all did a radio show together called Good Tunes For People Who Love Bad Tunes (named after my least favourite Modest Mouse album) on our student radio station. Quite by chance, I’m wearing my old Radio Hudd tshirt as I type this. Seems appropriate I guess. The cover art to this is one of the pictures I took when we did a “promotional photo shoot” for the show on the gritty streets of Moldgreen for a bit of a laugh. We had a great time doing that show, or at least, I did. The others might have hated it, hah.
Anyway, we all liked different stuff and the show would be really varied every week. Rob, Matt and I always used to trash each other’s tastes pretty much all the time, but Dave would usually take the high road and listen to everything with an open mind. I really can’t pin his music taste down at all - it’s pretty eclectic and he just gives everything a chance. So when he asked me to make him a mix for this blog, I wanted to make something that vaguely resembled a playlist for our gone-but-not-forgotten show. Something that would challenge him and that would have a weird and eclectic mix of stuff to listen to. The result is this mix, and I hope he (and anyone else who downloads it) manages to get past the first track. There’s some great stuff on here, if I may say so myself, so stick with it!
As always, click the cover to download and ignore the mess the folder is in, it’s all tagged up nicely.

![MFF#21: Time Travel Songs.
I made this for Jaimie quite a while ago. I was going to post it out to her but I couldn’t be bothered and it’s probably expensive anyway, so I’m just posting it up here instead, a few months late. It’s called Time Travel Songs because the time difference between America and England means that she lives in the past and I live in the future. Jaimie has spent many a day/night/whatever listening to me moan over Facebook chat and she honestly just rules, and I hope I can meet her some day for some serious partyin’ of some description. So I made her a mix of British bands, including some of the most British-sounding bands I could think of, as well as some stuff from America or whatever. I think it’s pretty good.
The last track is especially relevant because it’s a song by Dave House, a folk punk singer from the UK, recorded live in a living room in West Chester, PA, which is where she lives now. It’s likely that she’ll know the person who recorded it. Just goes to show what a small world we live in thanks to the internet sometimes, and how things and people can be connected in unexpected ways. Click the cover to download, and ignore the mess the folder is in as it’s all tagged properly.

![MFF#20: covers//downers
I made this as a playlist for my own purposes initially, but decided to share it. It’s a bunch of sad covers of songs. Some of the songs were initially happy, some were initially sad, but these are some fairly miserable renditions of songs played by people who clearly really care about what they’re playing. I’ve included the original artist on the tracklisting below, in case you don’t know what’s what.
The album art for this one is weird. Sorry. I don’t really know where it came from. Click it to download this mix. Although the folder might look a bit of a mess, it’s all tagged up properly.

![MFF#19: Fuck This Place
This mix was made for Heather. I don’t talk to her very much anymore, but I used to talk to her every day. For a large chunk of this summer, I was living in an absolutely horrible student flat that was empty for the summer whilst trying (and failing) to find a job and waiting to be able to move in to the house I live in now. In retrospect, it was probably a huge mistake. A whole bunch of things either happened or didn’t happen that made it an absolutely miserable time, and I think I probably took this out on Heather quite a bit by being a fairly massive jerk to her for pretty much no reason. I’m not surprised she doesn’t bother to talk to me anymore. So this was kind of intended as an apology mix CD, and it’s full of some of the songs I listened to most during my time there, as well as songs I thought she’d like. It’s a pretty good mix of more indie/pop stuff, with a few curveballs in there. Often gloomy, as you might guess from the name, but occasionally cheerful too. It’s all over the place, much like I was at the time.
The cover photo is the view from the window of my flat. I really, seriously, hated that place. Click the cover to download, and although the folder will look a bit messy, it’s all tagged up properly.
